Looking for a fresh way to make spelling word lists more engaging and meaningful across every level? Unlock the List transforms your typical word sort into a brain-filled puzzle that has students cracking the code and strengthening their spelling skills at the same time — now available as a complete bundle covering all four Words Their Way spelling stages.

Save 20% with this bundle that includes all four levels of Unlock the List!

Each word list is aligned to Words Their Way Sorts (3rd Edition) for Letter Name-Alphabetic, Within Word Pattern, Syllables and Affixes, and Derivational Relations Spellers — making differentiation across your word study groups easier than ever.

HOW IT WORKS

Students encounter their weekly or bi-weekly spelling word list with missing letters — beginning sounds, ending sounds, vowels, word parts, inflected endings, Greek and Latin affixes, prefixes, suffixes, and more based on their level — and are challenged to "unlock the list" by filling in the blanks. As students crack the code, they begin noticing connections among words, analyzing spelling patterns, vowel sounds, and word structures to uncover the word study focus. Use it as an entry point into a new word study list or as a reinforcement activity after students have completed their sorts.
