WHAT'S INCLUDED
Word Lists and Spelling Homework (7 lists)
Take-home word list printables with suggested practice activities, cut-apart words for sorting, half-page and 3-per-page versions to save paper, sorting cards for small group or independent use, a parent letter for the unit, and teacher tips for launching the routine.
Unlock the List (7 puzzles)
A fill-in-the-missing-letters activity that turns the weekly word list into a puzzle. Students encounter their list with vowels, blends, digraphs, and word parts missing and work to unlock it. As they solve words, they begin noticing connections between them, which pushes them to analyze the vowel sounds and spelling patterns behind the sort. Answer keys included.
Discovery Word Searches (7 searches)
A blind word search with no accompanying word list, because the goal is for students to discover and seek out correctly spelled words themselves. After finding two or three words, students start to see the pattern emerging, which helps them predict the rest of the sort. Available 1-per-page with a sorting chart and 2-per-page for gluing into word study notebooks. Answer keys included.
Word Study Notebook Activities (14 activity sheets)
Activity sheets that scaffold students into deeper analysis of the unit's concepts. Students create words by combining a beginning sound or blend with a word family ending (onsets and rimes), choose the correct beginning letters to complete a word, and sort words by their rime. One to three sheets per sort, with answer keys.

ABOUT THE LETTER NAME-ALPHABETIC STAGE
This stage is where students connect the letters they know to the sounds those letters make. Students at this level recognize most letters and are ready to study beginning and ending consonants, word families, digraphs and blends, and short vowels in CVC words. Instruction focuses on hearing the sounds inside a word and matching each one to the letter that spells it. By sorting pictures and words by sound, students build the letter-sound knowledge that supports both early spelling and early reading.
