Mix some fun into your word study block! These I, IS, and NOT contractions games introduce students to the most common contractions (I am, I will, it is, that is, can not, did not, and more). Students practice what each contraction means and where the apostrophe goes in words like don't, she's, that's, can't, and it's.
The games are aligned to Words Their Way: Word Sorts for Letter Name-Alphabetic Spellers (3rd Edition), Unit 7, Sort 60, but they work alongside any phonics or word study program. They're designed for students at the end of the Letter Name-Alphabetic stage who accurately spell CVC words with beginning blends, digraphs, and preconsonantal nasals and are ready to begin exploring within word patterns, including long vowel patterns and R-controlled vowels.

ABOUT THE LETTER NAME-ALPHABETIC STAGE
This stage is where students connect the letters they know to the sounds those letters make. Students at this level recognize most letters and are ready to study beginning and ending consonants, word families, digraphs and blends, and short vowels in CVC words. Instruction focuses on hearing the sounds inside a word and matching each one to the letter that spells it. By sorting pictures and words by sound, students build the letter-sound knowledge that supports both early spelling and early reading.
