Put your students' love of pumpkins to work with this Pumpkin Personalities Vocabulary & Writing Project! Students expand their vocabulary, explore character traits, and have a blast developing a pumpkin character and writing a creative story — making this the perfect fall or Halloween writing project for upper elementary.

This resource is also included in the Holiday Creative Writing and Vocabulary Activities Bundle.

HOW IT WORKS

Students engage in deep vocabulary study using synonym and antonym analysis, Frayer Model activities, and additional graphic organizers. After thoroughly exploring a chosen personality trait, students write a creative story about their pumpkin who embodies that trait.

Want to take it even further? Have students decorate a real pumpkin — or use the included cardstock pumpkin template — to represent their character in 3D. You'll also find suggestions and resources for a culminating writing celebration and follow-up literacy station activities!
