This bundle of division task cards allows you to easily incorporate differentiated division practice into your math block!

Why did I create these task cards? As my students worked to learn the area model method to divide whole numbers in the hundreds and thousands, I noticed commonalities among my students who struggled to learn the method:

1) Students have a hard time deciding which initial number to subtract from the dividend;

2) Students struggle to understand what number needs to be placed above the rectangle/box (the other factor or the partial quotient).

To help students better understand the area model for division, I designed these Area Model task cards where I have done the first step for students. Since I want students to see that they can really start from any entry point that makes sense, I did not always use the largest initial number that is possible.

I also created cards with and without the first partial quotient given to the student to provide you with another way to challenge and differentiate your students' practice.

Of course, computation and multiplication fact errors occur regularly as students are learning to divide. To combat this issue, students can check their quotients using multiplication. The student recording sheet I have provided expects students to check their quotient and search for errors if it does not check out.

1 Digit Divisors: You get 4 variations with 20 cards of each type for a total of 80 task cards:

✔ 3 and 4 digit dividends (with the first partial quotient given)

✔ 3 and 4 digit dividends (where the first partial quotient is not given)

2 Digit Divisors: You get 4 variations with 20 cards of each type for a total of 80 task cards:

✔ 3 and 4 digit dividends (with the first partial quotient given)

✔ 3 and 4 digit dividends (where the first partial quotient is not given)

Want Just the 1 Digit Divisors Set?

Want just the 2 Digit Divisors Set?

Related Resources:

4th Grade Differentiated Assessments & Practice Sheets: Division Concepts

4th Grade Differentiated Assessments & Practice Sheets: Multiplication Concepts

Find more real-world themed math task cards for multiplying whole numbers, dividing whole numbers, fractions concepts, and more here in my store!

Copyright © Tammy Roose, Tarheelstate Teacher

The purchase of this resource gives the buyer permission to download and copy for single classroom use only.
